What it is — and isn't

A careful reader of the corpus, not a voice of its own.

You describe a situation in plain English. Fango retrieves the closest passages and reports what they do and do not say, with numbered citations. It is a tool for a trained instructor's judgement — never a replacement for it.

✦ What it does

→Reports what the sources say, with inline [1] [2] citations back to every passage.
→Shows each source's access level — a passage behind Parent Club or an instructor gate is flagged, loudly, never shown as freely shareable.
→Runs fully offline on an ordinary computer. No cloud, no account, no network — the materials never leave your machine.
→Suggests directions for an instructor to weigh, with the original passage text and a similarity score beside each hit.

◇ What it won't do

→It doesn't answer the question itself or speak in Hand in Hand's voice — that framing was tested and it invented advice.
→It doesn't advise — medical, legal, or otherwise. Because it only ever characterises sources, it has no gap in which to make something up.
→It isn't parent-facing. This is an instructor's lookup tool, not a chatbot for families.
→It won't hide a source. Every statement points somewhere you can open and read for yourself.

A note for testers. Because these builds go to friendly hands outside Hand in Hand, they carry a public-only slice of the corpus — the gated passages stay on HiH's own machines. The access badges still render, so you can see the discipline at work even when only public material is present.

Grabbed the split bundle? Add this once and drop it in at data/reporter.gguf to turn on full reports. It's the same file on every platform, so you only fetch it once.

Run it

Three steps, then ask it anything.

Nothing installs and nothing phones home. The whole tool lives in the folder you unzip.

Unzip the folder

Put it wherever you like — a Desktop folder, a USB stick. The index and model sit in data/ right beside the program.

Open it

On Windows, double-click Start Fango.bat. On Linux, run it from a terminal in that folder:

$ ./fango answer -i

Describe the situation

Type a question in plain English. Fango shows its sources first, then writes the report as it reads:
